HEAVY HEX BOLTS have a head that is larger than a standard (finish) hex head. Standard heavy hex bolts are made of low to mid carbon steel. The large head offers a greater bearing surface that distributes the clamping load over a greater area.

The ASTM A307 specification covers carbon steel bolts and studs ranging from 1/4" through 4" diameter. This is your everyday, run of the mill bolt specification often manufactured using A36 round bar. There are three grades A, B, and C which denote tensile strength, configuration, and application.

The ASTM A193 standard covers alloy steel and stainless steel bolting materials for high temperature or high pressure service. This specification includes fasteners intended for use in pressure vessels, valves, flanges, and fittings. Although, this material is often available in UNC national coarse thread, diameters above one inch are typically specified 8 threads per inch (tpi).

ANCHOR BOLTS are mainly used in masonry construction. Anchor bolts are embedded in walls and columns to help support beams, plates, and ledgers. Anchor bolts can be used for both load and non-load bearing walls and beams.

Anchor bolts are usually used with not less than ½" diameter steel bolts embedded a minimum of 7" into the masonry. Renovation of existing masonry structures usually require anchor bolts to connect stairs, elevator tracks and many other various frame assemblies.

Anchor bolts are also used in prefabricated panel construction. In this type on construction, anchor bolts are used to connect structural frames together. This is only a fraction of possible uses for anchor bolts.

HEAVY HEX NUTS are manufactured to ASTM A563, ASTM A563M and ASTM A194 specifications and are designed to be stronger than the bolts with which they are assembled. Therefore, a higher strength nut typically may be substituted in the application and should always possess the same finish as the bolt. Never compromise your assembly with an inferior nut.
